How to Find Your First Guild Wars 2 Guild

Choose a guild that fits your region, schedule and favourite activities, with practical questions to ask before you join.

A good guild gives you people to explore Tyria with, ask questions and look forward to seeing again. Start with the way you enjoy playing and the hours you can actually be online. A clear idea of those two things makes a directory full of guilds much easier to navigate.

Start with the activities you enjoy

Think about the evenings you would like to have in game. You might want relaxed open-world adventures, a regular fractal group, raid practice, World vs. World squads or simply a friendly conversation while you explore. Look for guilds whose descriptions explain what their members actually do together.

  • Social and Casual: look for the atmosphere and participation expectations that suit you.
  • PvE and Open World: ask which activities the guild runs and how to join them.
  • Fractals, Raids and Strike Missions: check whether groups teach learners or expect encounter experience.
  • WvW and PvP: ask about organised sessions, build expectations and communication.
  • New Player and Returning Player: look for a clear welcome and someone available to answer questions.

Match your region and schedule

Put your region and timezone in your search. Read event times carefully and check whether the advertised time changes with daylight saving. A large guild may still be quiet during your usual hours, so ask when its members normally play together.

For WvW, ask the recruiter how to join their organised play and check ArenaNet’s current matchmaking guidance. A guild listing alone does not establish which WvW team you will be assigned to.

Read the expectations before applying

A guild can be welcoming and still have requirements for particular activities. Ask whether Discord is optional, whether you need to listen in voice chat and how sign-ups work. For organised PvE, check content access and the experience expected for the session you want to attend.

  • Which sessions are open to someone with my experience?
  • Are events optional, or is regular attendance expected?
  • Can I listen in voice chat without speaking?
  • Who should I contact when I need help?
  • How do new members join activities during their first week?

Introduce yourself clearly

A short introduction gives a recruiter something useful to respond to. For example: “I play on EU, usually after 19:00 UTC. I am returning to the game and would like relaxed open-world events and beginner fractals. I can join voice chat to listen, but cannot commit to the same evening every week.” Change the details to match your own situation.

Take time to find the right fit

Read a few profiles, contact the guilds that interest you and ask about their next open event. Pay attention to how they answer questions and welcome newcomers. You are choosing people to spend your free time with; a comfortable atmosphere matters as much as a busy schedule.

If you prefer recruiters to approach you, create a Looking for Guild post with your region, availability and interests. Keep passwords, authentication codes and other sensitive account information private.
